During the Civil War this area was known as the "breadbasket of the Confederacy." In 1864 my Maine ancestors may have met the ancestors of the family who operate this farm today. Don't think the meeting would have been very cordial. As members of Wright's 19th Corps of the Union Army my great-great-great Uncles would have been doing their best to, "make the Shenandoah Valley so desolate that crows flying over it would have to carry their own provender."
