Lowell Feld’s highly anticipated book Netroots Rising is shipping on June 27. Lowell is far and away the most respected and influential blogger in Virginia. RaisingKaine, which he originally founded to support Tim Kaine’s bid for Governor, has become the best state-wide political blog in America. Out Of The Park Baseball

By From http://www.odonnellweb.com • Jun 24th, 2008 • Category: Blog Entries.Local

Out Of The Park Baseball is a hardcore baseball for sim for serious baseball geeks. I haven’t played in a couple of years, but on a lark last night downloaded the demo for OOTP 8 to see if it would run on Ubuntu under Wine.
Not only does it run, it runs far faster than I […]

Fredericksburg has crime and robberies…

By From • Jun 24th, 2008 • Category: News.Local

…but luckily most aren’t that bright. In today’s FLS there are two reports of home invasions.  The first occurs in Spotsylvania when an intruder demands money and an XBox while using a shotgun.  The pair wrestle outside until the intruder announces that this is a prank and it’s going to be on Myspace. What?  (BTW, […]

Don’t feed the bears

By From http://www.odonnellweb.com • Jun 24th, 2008 • Category: Blog Entries.Local

In Fredericksburg VA it’s illegal to feed the bears, even if they steal the food. If a bear climbs your fence and helps himself to the bird feeder, you can be charged with illegally feeding wildlife.
I’d make a snarky comment, but what can I say? This level of ridiculousness stands on its own.

The Examiner:
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier gave “demonstrably false” testimony when she denied reports that untrained officers were dispatched to her controversial neighborhood barricades, a union representing D.C.’s rank-and-file police officers charged Monday.
Requesting a formal inspector general’s investigation into Lanier’s testimony on her neighborhood quarantine program, Fraternal Order of Police Chairman Kristopher Baumann said Lanier […]

Moral panic everywhere.

By From http://www.imsurroundedbyidiots.com • Jun 24th, 2008 • Category: Blog Entries.Local

The Boston Globe stated the following in an op-ed, “SOCIOLOGISTS USE the term ‘moral panic’ to describe a sudden episode of hysterical behavior set off by exaggerated threats and fueled by endlessly reiterated stories of dangerous behavior.” (Wolfe, Alan. “This panic won’t create air safety”. Aug. 23, 2006.)
For past examples, see the hysteria regarding the […]
