Nope, hot weather isn’t over yet

This GFS model forecast map shows us in the triple digit range again next Tuesday; the forecast for the day before this looks remarkably similar.  The only factor that might prevent this eastward expansion of the heat dome currently over the southern Plains and the deep South is the approach of Tropical Storm Colin, which could provide clouds and rain to mitigate the heat.  Of course no one on the East Coast wants to see a tropical system approach, but sometimes that's how our summer droughts are broken. 
Meanwhile we still have a chance at some rain this week if we wind up on the wet side of the NWS probability forecasts, which range from 30% to 60% over the next few days.  Fredericksburg's luck with the precipitation odds hasn't been too good lately, so hopefully that will change.
