STEAMY Exemplified!

Wow! Talk about living in a sauna...I knew it was humid the instant I stepped outside this morning, but I had no idea how bad it would get! The dewpoint at the Stafford Regional Airport was over 80 degrees F until the most recent report (it plummeted all the way to 79 at 4:00 p.m.!), and the dewpoint registered at Shannon Airport has been 80 degrees or above since 9:37 a.m.!! Thankfully we did get some rain early this morning, courtesy of the remnants of a mesoscale convective vortex (MCV) that rolled through just after 4:00 a.m. (waking me up in the process). When I checked my unofficial rain gauge in the backyard this afternoon it showed 1.25" of rain, more than we've had collectively for several weeks. Hopefully that's not the last of the rain we'll see this week, given the inherent moisture and the approach of a cold front from the northwest. Meanwhile, break out the towels!
