Caution: Yucky weather ahead

Now I realize we need rain to water our lawns, fill our reservoirs, and raise the river levels to where they should be. It's the drizzly overcast crud that I quickly tire of, and that seems to be on the menu for the next few days. Tonight's rain was supposed to give way to a couple of clear days before the next system moves in but the latest forecast discussion is dredging up the dreaded cold air damming scenario in which a high pressure system over New England pumps in cool moist air from the Atlantic and blocks out the precious late October sunshine. Gloom is now in the forecast following the current rainmaking system, and then "a more potent system" - official National Weather Service verbiage - approaches for the weekend. The good news is that our high temperatures will remain tolerable throughout the next several days with highs in the 60's (or even low 70's Saturday). Next likely sunny day? Maybe Sunday...
