Northern Virginia BrewFest Brewery List

Author: From http://www.musingsoverapint.com/ • Jun 10th, 2011

The list of participating breweries for the 4th Annual Northern Virginia BrewFest have been posted. As of June 9, fifty-seven breweries are participating, 15 of which are new to the festival. Among those I'm most looking forward to trying are Epic Brewing (New Zealand), Schlafy Beer (Missouri) and The Breury (California). These are breweries whose beers I've only been able to read about. So, I know where my first stops will be! Of course, there will be lots of Virginia breweries represented as well.

The Northern Virginia BrewFest takes place June 25 and 26 in Leesburg, Virginia. This is always a great festival. For complete details and ticket information see the event website at novabrewfest.com/summer.

World Beer Fest Richmond Cancelled

Author: From http://www.musingsoverapint.com/ • May 20th, 2011

Daniel Bradford of All About Beer Magazine, sponsor of the World Beer Festival has announced that the Richmond event scheduled for June 18 in Richmond, VA has been canceled. In a letter sent out today Bradford writes:
Greetings:

It is with deepest regret that we must announce the cancellation of the World Beer Festival – Richmond 2011.

We enjoyed an excellent response from the Richmond beer community to last summer’s inaugural event. As we prepared for this year’s festival, we were excited about the public response, including both ticket pre-sales and volunteer recruitment. However, we have struggled with the regulatory requirements and trade practices in executing our festival model in Richmond.  Furthermore, internal company issues inhibited our ability to get ahead of these challenges and respond in a supportive partner fashion.

We concluded we could not create the type of beer tasting experience that would meet our standards, a reputation for quality beer tasting events that we have nurtured since 1996.  We would not have fulfilled our commitment to our customers or to the industry we have served for three decades.

We remain committed to the Richmond beer market – beer lovers, beer retailers, beer wholesalers and brewers – offering our assistance and support for any and all quality beer events that spread the word about good beer.

Again, we are deeply sorry about not being able to execute our event and any unfulfilled expectations that this may cause.  We are contacting all advanced sale ticket holders to offer refunds or exchanges for our World Beer Festival – Durham, World Beer Festival – Raleigh or World Beer Festival--Columbia.

Cheers,

Daniel Bradford
President
Readers will recall that the inaugural World Beer Festival - Richmond had to be postponed from it's original date back in 2009. The World Beer Festival events I've attended in North Carolina have been well-organized and a lot of fun. I hope the organizers can find a way to overcome the trials they face bringing the event to Virginia.

Virginia craft beer fans are in for treat in June. There are two great beer fests are coming up.

First up is the Second Annual World Beer Festival in Richmond on Saturday, June 18, 2011 on Brown's Island. For tickets, visit www.allaboutbeer.com/wbf or stop in at Mekong Restaurant, 6004 W. Broad Street or Capital Ale House (Downtown, Innsbrook & Midlothian).

Produced by All About Beer Magazine, the festival offers two four-hour sessions, from noon to 4 p.m., and from 6 to 10 p.m. General admission to a single session is $40 in advance, $50 day of the event, which includes beer samples, music by local bands, educational sessions by industry experts, and a festival tasting glass.

The following weekend will find fans enjoying the Northern Virginia BrewFest. The 4th Annual Northern Virginia Summer BrewFest takes place June 25-26 and will feature beer from over 50 breweries and a wide variety of food. Your admission ticket includes a sampling glass and four beer tickets. Additional drink tickets are available for purchase. This is one of my favorite festivals, I'm sure you'll enjoy it too.

Tickets to the BrewFest are available online. Advanced tickets are $20, and $30 at the gate. Reduced price tickets are also available for designated drivers.

Two great craft beer festivals in the same month. Make your plans now, and be sure to enjoy responsibly.

I am blogging from a new home this morning!  After much deliberation and hours of looking at our business model, the team has decided to move to a new home.  We are now with Champion Homes Realty!  We very much enjoyed our time at Coldwell Banker Elite – Massaponax and we’ll greatly miss our office mates there.  The most wonderful thing about the real estate business is that you can move brokerages and still have wonderful relationships at your former office.  Our clients have been grateful to learn that they will not be affected by our move.  Business will continue as usual, some of them will just be getting new For Sale signs in their yards.  Coldwell Banker Elite – Massaponax has wished us the best in our new adventure.

Champion Homes Realty has been on the forefront of the depressed market since the decline of the economy.  For the last few years they have specialized in REO properties, we will be bringing another element of today’s real estate environment to the company – Short Sales.  We are very excited about our new endeavor and are blessed to have so much support.

Our new brokerage is located at 1283 Carl D. Silver Pkwy Fredericksburg, VA  22401.  Our email addresses and phone numbers are the same.  We can’t wait to continue our mission of helping distressed homeowners through this difficult time from our new home.

Hop Stringin’ at Blue Mountain

Author: From http://www.musingsoverapint.com/ • Apr 26th, 2011
   Category: Blog Entries.Local, Events
Last July, Blue Mountain Brewery invited fans in for a day of hop picking. Now, the Nelson County brewery is tempting folks in for another work day.

From Nelson County Life Magazine:
Bring a pair of good yard scissors and help Blue Mountain Brewery string, trim and train their Cascade and Centennial hops! On Tuesday, April 26th · 3:00pm – 6:00pm Give them an hour of good work and they’ll hook you up with a “hop-hand” sandwich–carnivore or vegetarian style–and a side. They’ll be wrapping up the stringin’ by 6PM, so last check in time is precisely 5PM for this event. Co-owner and brewmaster Taylor Smack laughingly has a suggestion. “Basically, what we’re saying is fake a stomach ache at work sometime between 2:30 and 4:30 and get on out here for some good, beery, country fun!” Brewers Chad, Mitch, Matt and Taylor and Stan “the hop man” Driver will be out in the field working and chatting it up with all comers. Hope to see you!

(Seriously, don’t forget your scissors or a good box-knife or the like.)
Sounds a bit like a Tom Sawyer tale, but it will be good time for sure. But you better hurry, it's today!

World Beer Festival – Richmond

Author: From http://www.musingsoverapint.com/ • Apr 18th, 2011

The 2nd annual World Beer Festival in Richmond will take place on June 18. See the following press release for more information.

World Beer Festival, and “The Art of Beer”, Returns to Richmond
One of the premier beer events in the country offering a unique opportunity to learn about and enjoy beer

April 18, 2011 (Richmond, Va.) – Richmond will welcome its 2nd World Beer Festival Saturday, June 18, 2011 on Brown's Island. Produced by All About Beer Magazine, the World Beer Festival is a celebration of the world beer culture, offering attendees a sampling of hundreds of beers from more than 100 domestic and international breweries. Festival goers also enjoy educational sessions by industry experts, food from a variety of local restaurants, plus live entertainment by local musicians. For the second year, the festival will be presented by local Richmond charity; FETCH a Cure.

“Richmond embraced the World Beer Festival in 2010 and we're excited to return, where consumers, wholesalers, retailers, and suppliers all come together.” said Daniel Bradford, Publisher of All About Beer Magazine. “Plus this year, we will be showcasing our expanded concept of beer as an art, with more displays and in-depth presentations, that explain further why beer is such an exciting, interesting beverage and socializer.”

Last year Brown's Island welcomed the inaugural Richmond festival and the enthusiasm and excitement was prevalent as attendees sampled from the sea of brewers' stations. Generally, the World Beer Festivals average an increase of 25% per year, but this year the Columbia festival grew by almost 40%, evidence of the growing interest in beer and the strong following of the festival.

“The craft beer industry including microbreweries is exploding because people are discovering the amazing tastes and variety in beer,” said Bradford. “Our event exposes people to a huge range of beers including imports combined with some experiential learning on brewing and food pairing. We raise our attendees appreciation of beer to an epicurean level.”

All About Beer Magazine has produced World Beer Festivals for sixteen years. It is recognized as one of the premier beer events in the country, with endorsements from Forbes.com, USA Today, and Wired. Each year the World Beer Festival is held in Raleigh and Durham, NC, where it sells out regularly. Three years ago Columbia, SC was added to its roster of cities, and 2010 was Richmond’s first

“This festival has proven to be a much added bonus to the Richmond festival season and a true education of different beers from around the world,” said Joanne Silverman, director of FETCH a Cure. “FETCH a Cure is excited to partner with All About Beer Magazine for a second year. Last year was a tremendous success for our organization in both educating the public on pets cancers as well as general pet care.”

The festival offers two four-hour sessions, from noon to 4 p.m., and from 6 to 10 p.m. General admission to a single session is $40 in advance, $50 day of the event, which includes beer samples, music by local bands, educational sessions by industry experts, and a festival tasting glass. VIP tickets are also available for an additional $35. VIP benefits include admission to the VIP lounge, samples of extra special beers, private restrooms and free catered food.

“A magnificent beer event in a breathtaking setting,” said Matthew Simmons, president, Capital Ale House Richmond. “The World Beer Festival on the banks of the James River is another must in the burgeoning Richmond beer scene”.

Tickets for the World Beer Festival will go on sale on May 9 at www.allaboutbeer.com. Subscribers to All About Beer Magazine have the priviledge to purchase tickets on May 5, prior to the general public. For more information on the Richmond festival, visit http://www.allaboutbeer.com/wbfrichmond and for the latest updates on this year's event, like World Beer Festivals on Facebook.
