Naturally, there are hundreds more- but this is a good overall sense of the event. A great time was had by all! Unless of course you were trying to blog live from the event, in which case, our Internet service was mysteriously disconnected just after the debate began…

In case the Free Lance-Star is interested in reporting our official attendance, as calculated by the official landscaper of the parking lot, we had “26,500 people in attendance including those who couldn’t get in” (because we reached our capacity of 1,450 inside the building.)  I’m quite pleased with this number, since I know every one of these folks will actually vote on Nov. 4th.  Our area will no doubt remain bright RED thanks to dedicated citizens who understand what Barack Hussein Obama’s “Change” and “Hope” really mean for our families.

In case the Free Lance-Star is interested in reporting our official attendance, as calculated by the official landscaper of the parking lot, we had "26,500 people in attendance including those who couldn't get in" (because we reached our capacity of 1,450 inside the building.) The Audacity of Hope

I finished The Audacity of Hope last night. It gives me hope for the future.

OK, bad puns aside, the thing that struck me most about the book is that Obama comes across as much more centrist when he is isn’t boxed in by a 30 second time limit. It’s a shame that the attention span of the average voter in this country doesn’t allow the candidates the time to actually talk to us. Although I don’t necessarily agree with his solutions to some of the issues, it’s comforting to know that if Obama is the next President, we’ll have a President that has actually thought through the issues. Of course, the reality of our system is that he won’t be able to do anything like he really wants to. Everything will get watered down by the political process.

Interestingly, in the book he explicitly states that we’ll probably need to increase military spending in the short term to repair the damage done to the military by Bush and Co. I haven’t heard that mentioned on the stump recently. Of course, that was before the $1 trillion bailout of the financial system. Yes, $1 trillion. I’m predicting now that the price tag will ultimately exceed $1 trillion. Honestly, I don’t know if it’s really necessary or not. I’d say I run about 60% let the market work and see what happens, and 40% inject the liquidity and try to stabilize things.

Political Bumpers 2008

Political Bumpers is an unscientific study of the correlation between the cars Americans drive and the way we vote. Designated “spotters” scattered throughout the country record information about cars sporting political bumper stickers. Real-time reports are then available, detailing how types and makes of vehicles correspond to political leaning.

I’m one of the spotters.

Behind the backline with Sen. McCain

This post about McCain’s ties to the gambling industry reminded me that I was at the same craps table with Sen McCain (and George Carlin) when I was in Vegas in Jan 2002. Original blog post on that trip.

Category: Blog Entries.Local, Politics, Spotsylvania, Stafford

The Fredericksburg Area Republicans “An Evening at the Debate” rally event during tonight’s (Oct 2) Palin-Biden showdown will be covered live by CNN TV cameras, as well as, at least two network TV affiliates, the Washington Post, Free Lance-Star and multiple other new media, schools and Virginia’s own Jeffersoniad bloggers (the ones who bothered to RSVP that is- we’ll have room for the stragglers too!)

This is a FREE event! Location is the Expo Center in Central Park off Exit 130b of I-95 in Fredericksburg, VA. Bring your cameras- lots of politicians and a few celebrities will be there!

Seats are limited, and really are filling up fast!  So, pre-register up until 2pm online at www.FredGOP.com .  If you miss this deadline, you can still register at the door, but space is limited on a first-come-first-served basis.

Speeches will be brief, but exciting and the debate will begin promptly at 9:00pm. Doors open at 7:00pm.  If you didn’t pre-register, you should get there before 7 to (hopefully) guarantee a seat.

Get all the info you need for this event at www.FredGOP.com . (The debate itself is live via satellite, the media is covering the event in person though.)

See you there!

Gary Skinner wants to know why everybody gets to raise gas prices except him

My Supervisor “asked county administrators last week to investigate possible gas price gouging in Spotsylvania County” (Free Lance Black Hole).  To be fair to Mr. Skinner, he was aware of Hurricane Ike, but he seemed upset that the price rose “the day of the hurricane.”

Maybe if he looked a bit further south he’d realize how fortunate we are that the price has receded to pre-Ike levels.  He might also want to keep in mind that several refineries were shut down before Ike made landfall, due to “speculation” that the hurricane would cause tremendous damage and wipe out power for days - which is exactly what it did.

One thing Skinner didn’t mention (and neither did FLBH reporter Dan Telvock, for that matter) was his own planto raise the price of gas for every single Spotsylvanian.

Was Gary just upset that someone beat him to the punch?

GOP House Saw Freddy-Fannie Crash and Warned Us! Dems Covered It Up- Here’s Proof

Watch. Listen. Learn. Remember. Who called for restrictions and regulation?  Who ardently argued on behalf of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae? …Unbelievable.

Family Told Obama NOT To Wear Soldier Son’s Bracelet… Where is Media?

Author: From http://rappahannockred.wordpress.com • Sep 28th, 2008

Newsbusters hit this one out of the park!

Barack Obama played the “me too” game during the Friday debates on September 26 after Senator John McCain mentioned that he was wearing a bracelet with the name of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, a resident of New Hampshire and a soldier that lost his life in Iraq in 2006. Obama said that he too had a bracelet. After fumbling and straining to remember the name, he revealed that his had the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek of Merrill, Wisconsin.

Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son’s name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.

My good friend Jason over at Bearing Drift got this online faster than I could get to it, so without further ado … John McCain is Right.  We already knew this, of course.
