Fredericksburg, VA: Press Bloats Obama Attendance off the chart; 100+ McCain Patriots Line Streets at MWU Gate

Author: From http://rappahannockred.wordpress.com • Sep 28th, 2008

Obama had to run the gauntlet of McCain-Palin signs when his posse plus Joe “Bag O’ Donuts” Biden invaded this tiny southern city’s University.

The Fredericksburg, VA region will not turn blue, or even a shade of purple this November as Obamamaniacs would like us to believe. This is FIRMLY Republican ground, and I’ve never been more convinced than today when THOUSANDS of cars honked their horns vigorously in support of today’s grassroots activism display by a cooperative effort of regional McCain supporters.

This idea sprung up at a typical jam-packed nightly calling session at the regional GOP Headquarters this past Thursday night, even though we weren’t certain whether Obama would cancel the MWU event to go to Washington, D.C. and put his 143 days of experience in the U.S. Senate to good use and solve the financial crisis.

You see, that’s where Senator John McCain was today instead of glad-handing a bunch of ninnies like Barry Obama was.

I was proud to be part of a one-hundred-plus-strong army of McCain-Palin supporters from throughout the greater Fredericksburg region, who answered the action call of their committees to “welcome” his highness Obama to the campus of Mary Washington University today— and boy did we!

We lined a quarter-mile of Jefferson Davis Highway with patriots of Virginia who proudly held 4′x8′ signs supporting John McCain and Sarah Palin. We would have gone farther, but we ran out of signs!

We let Obama know that this is McCAIN COUNTRY! Not one- repeat- NOT ONE Obama sign or supporter came out AT ALL on the road we lined for more than five hours! Not one Obama supporter or sign holder came out on any side street of the city either!

Yes, some houses have his signs in their yard like any other election, and despite more than 30 huge McCain signs being slashed and stolen the night before off of private property and front yards of houses, we managed to get them all replaced and fortified with proud McCain supporters who were happy to guard their property against these cowards and vandals and beat back the “invasion” of a few hundred Obama disciples who trickled in over the rest of the afternoon.

The press is trying to report a huge lie of seemingly insignificant information, but if this is any indication of the way they do their Sunday morning polling (when conservatives are IN CHURCH) then you too may just be a “believer” that Obama is winning too.

Who wants to decry BULLS%#T first? Here’s your chance if you were there- no matter who you supported… They’re saying Obama’s visit to Fredericksburg, VA was greeted with 26,000 supporters.” Yep- that’s the official count released tonight…. in a tiny city of 21,000 total residents, on a campus of about 4,500 students that issued a permit for Obama’s historic visit for 1,500 people (that’s one thousand five-hundred) in a roped off area about the size of a baseball field’s infield and some outfield too, they fit “26,000 people” …reportedly. BEEE ESSS!

Watch the video news reports- you’ll see quick pan shots of a crowd not more than about 25 deep in a semicircle in front of the stage…

I’ve never seen this kind of false propaganda get out into the news in person before except in the opposite case when the MSM (mainstream media) covers a Washington, D.C. annual Pro-Life rally and ignores the attendance volumes and plays them off as barely attended.

At least in the case of the Free Lance-Star article not written by a bonafied liberal-lover named Chelyen Davis, Kelly Hannon had the decency to mention the Pro-Lifers from multiple organizations that dutifully reminded the Obama guests that Obama supports post-birth “born alive abortions” aka, infanticide, and proudly fundraises cash for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest taxpayer-subsidized for profit abortion chain. Not to solely pick on Obama, Hillary Clinton is close friends with Cecile Richards, the CEO of P.P., but Hillary is ollld news now, so I’ll end that tangent.

Interestingly enough, both FLS writers or their editor, left out any mention in either article about the hundred-plus McCain folks outside the gates. Fortunately for our side tens of thousands saw us with their own eyes and know that they’re not alone just because they’re part of the so-called ’silent majority’. Election day will reveal just how silent they are. Their car horns certainly weren’t silent today.

Back to the point; the press is reporting that enough people to fill HALF OF RFK STADIUM somehow squeezed into a baseball diamond. Call Guinness people- this one is for the record books!

HOGWASH! Several thousand attending— absolutely, I buy that— and why not? He’s a rock star after all. Yes, several hundred- perhaps a thousand were lined up around the permitted area too and on sidewalks in the area, but it is a university for pete’s sake- students are there in that volume on any given school night! I suppose you could STRETCH the numbers to hit 3,000 if you included all the students milling around too… but c’mon guys- 26,000??

While some of his drones were nice enough to give us only the thumbs down as we waved to them as they entered the campus of Mary Washington University, still other sheep gave us the middle finger and shouted “F*#@ every one of you BAS@#^&@!!” which happened at least a dozen times with the exact same quote…. one only wonders how they orchestrated this identical mantra so well when their Lord and savior (Barack Hussein Obama, a fine Christian man from the mid west the press will tell you) couldn’t even get to Fredericksburg on time! He was 2 hours late getting to the stage.

Was he fashionably late or making hype build up? Maybe he just couldn’t decide if he needed a tactic or a strategy to get there.

The press reported on tonight’s TV news that supporters endured SIX rain storms before he got there… wow- now they rewrite the weather too! YES it poured like a monsoon from about 5:00- 5:30, and then stopped instantly. Amazingly there was even a rainbow! I figured- Obama himself MUST be on stage now… the clouds parted and a rainbow was present for heaven’s sake. But no, he was practicing his speech in the car apparently.

If you listen to the same press, you’ll hear how he ‘won’ the debate against John McCain too (though he couldn’t remember the name of the soldier when he said “I have a bracelet too” to McCain in response to McCain bringing up how he wears a bracelet as a request from a mom of a fallen U.S. soldier to honor his memory.

Have YOU had enough Obama-mania? I sure have. As a local county GOP member, I’m doing something about it.

Want to get involved too? Call your local GOP committee or the Fredericksburg Regional GOP Headquarters at (202) 507-0841, located in South Stafford off exit 133b.

I’d like to extend a special thanks to the UMW Young Republicans who came out in volumes today and cheered enthusiastically for their candidate. You made all the difference in our success and filled in our ranks tremendously! Sorry, this is the only picture I snapped of you when you first started arriving- if you have a better one with all 30-40 of you, send it! (p.s. next time use permanent markers! Sorry the rain ruined all your hard work.)

Also- be sure to come to the Fredericksburg EXPO center this Thursday October 2, 2008 for a FREE event with “thousands” of your closest Republican friends: Sarah Palin debating Joe Biden live on Jumbo TV’s (via satellite) See http://www.fredgop.com/ for details. You must register to attend- space is limited.

All your favorite elected officials will be there including former U.S. Senator George Allen and Congressman Rob Wittman!

List of 300 General and Admirals Endorsing John McCain for President- AMAZING!

Author: From http://rappahannockred.wordpress.com • Sep 27th, 2008
 Category: Blog Entries.Local, Politics

ARLINGTON, VA – U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that 300 retired generals and admirals from around the country are endorsing John McCain for president. The retired generals and admirals announced their support with the following letter:

“We have had the honor and privilege of serving as career officers in the United States Armed Forces, and of serving shoulder to shoulder with so many of the fine young men and women who are the backbone of America’s Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. It is that experience that informs our judgment that John McCain is the presidential candidate best suited to serve as America’s Commander-in Chief from the day of his inauguration.

“Our next president will confront national security challenges as significant as those faced by any administration in at least a generation. Success will require a leader with proven tenacity, judgment and courage. It will also require a leader with detailed knowledge of our military and other instruments of national power, and with years of experience dealing seriously with foreign leaders.

“John McCain’s entire life has been devoted to the service of America. Throughout a long and distinguished career in the military and in Congress, he has repeatedly displayed the courage and integrity to place America’s interests first — regardless of personal cost. And he has demonstrated the experience and wisdom to lead America — and, importantly, our allies — in effectively dealing with complex and vitally important national security challenges around the world.

“We unequivocally endorse him to continue his service to the country as the next President of the United States.”

Can You Say Double Standard?

The University Mary of Washington, a publicly funded University thinks it’s just fine and dandy to sell Obama/Biden T-shirts with the UMW logo on them at the campus bookstore. I wonder if the same would be the case if McCain/Palin were to visit UMW?

The shirt has UMW’s logo on the front and the back reads: “Obama was there, Biden was there, I was there, UMW ‘08.”

“We came up with the ideas and ran it up the chain at the university,” said bookstore manager Kathy Underwood. “We wanted to make sure it was appropriate.” Rest of article

This is off the heels of the Fairfax County School Board denying the Fairfax McCain rally to be held at Fairfax High School. The state appears to be filled with double standards.

Call the UMW President’s office at (540) 654-1301or email mcorbin@umw.edu and ask they stop selling the Obama shirts now!

McCain ditches the Letterman show

And Dave is not happy, particularly when it comes out the McCain did not in fact rush back to Washington, but is doing an interview with Katie Couric at the exact time he should be on Letterman.

President Bartlett and Obama have a talk

This is both funny, and true. Obama does need to start calling McCain on the constant stream of lies coming from his campaign.

The people who want English to be the official language of the United States are uncomfortable with their leaders being fluent in it.

Politics, Religion, the Press, and You.

Don't worry. I am not going to waste this space or your time with a rant telling you who you should vote for, or against. This is much more importent than that. It is safe for you to read-on...
Are you tired of hearing about the upcoming presidential election yet?

Living near Washington DC, it seems as though we have been the victims of a media blitz for a couple of years now.

News radio, talk radio, television, magazines, newpapers, billboards, bus signs, on line news, blog sites and the bum on the corner all provide a constant barrage of opinions. They inform us of the candidates' work history, personal life, family life, political positions, religious beliefs, underwear color, shoe size and elementary school report cards. It is information overload. The media pumps us full of so much data that it is almost impossible to digest it all.

The information comes at us so fast, that we no longer take the time to really 'listen.' We no longer take the time to determine what is fact and what is fiction. We no longer contemplate on what we have heard to determine how it impacts our lives, or even if it is really important enough to be an issue. We no longer think for ourselves.

Yikes!

Let me say that one more time.

We no longer think for ourselves.

I am often saddened to hear friends, neighbors and complete strangers simply echo political opinion published by the media, or worse yet by a Hollywood celebrity (What in the world makes a person in the entertainment industry believe that they are an authority on global political matters? You host a day time talk show, or you win an Emmy for supporting actor in a comedy series, and somehow you have earned the right to spout some political garabage to a captive audience? Oops. I digress.)

When it comes to politics and religion, I have always believed that everyone should carefully consider all of the issues and make up their own mind.

It's fine to listen to the talking heads on the television, but use your own head to discern what is important.

We all seem to remember that the freedoms we are so very blessed with as United States citizens allow us to form our own spirtual beliefs. To have a choice in how to practice our faith. To have a choice not to believe in God at all if you so desire.

Well, don't forget that you also have the freedom to make your own decisions when you vote. Use media resources to gather information. Don't believe everything that you hear or read, but take the time to consider all sides of the story. Take the time to find out the truth and to avoid getting caught-up in the media frenzy that feeds off irrelevant hype that has no real bearing on the candidates' suitability for the office.

Practice the freedom to think for yourself.

Think for yourself.

Then be certain to vote on Election Day.

See you at the polls.

To Tax or Not to tax, that is the City Council’s question

Author: From http://rappahannockred.wordpress.com • Sep 22nd, 2008
 Category: Blog Entries.Local, Politics

Matt Kelly had a good post on his blog Question Everything today. It raises the question as to whether a government should raise taxes to keep up with the services we’ve come to enjoy. My point as a conservative is that new and more taxes are NOT the answer. His position as a fiscal moderate-leaning-liberal is that the government needs more income to keep stoking the fire. He called this “reality”. I call it “raising taxes”.

I suppose this is my fault since I threw down the gauntlet when I commented that he was a good guy on council, except when he’s raising taxes or funding things that the constitution would argue that government has no business involving itself with. He responded rather than with a quip or snarkey comment, but with a surprisingly Obama-like justification for tax-hiking and a full-out blog post. That surprised me that he took that much time to articulate why raising taxes is *good* business on big-government’s behalf. To which I responded:

I have a great deal of respect for Matt and his dedication to his post and his regular submission of new ideas and solutions for the myriad of issues that pop up and require governmental solutions.

*BUT* after reading this blog post, I wonder when he last read the Republican creed:

 • That the free enterprise system is the most productive supplier of human needs and economic justice;
 • That all individuals are entitled to equal rights, justice, and opportunities and should assume their responsibilities as citizens in a free society;
 • That fiscal responsibility and budgetary restraints must be exercised at all levels of government;
 • That the Federal Government must preserve individual liberty by observing constitutional limitations;
 • That peace is best preserved through a strong national defense;
 • That faith in God, as recognized by our Founding Fathers, is essential to the moral fibre of the Nation.

While “keeping taxes as low as possible” is a far more comfortable mantra for the lazy bureaucrats at City Hall (in general not specifically our city hall), it is no reassurance to the families on the brink of bankruptcy because of the current economy, or to the fixed income retiree whose Social Security check is barely enough to pay her medical bills.

These are real problems, and good government demands good stewardship, not higher (net) taxes.

If more people pay even less money into the system, we all suffer and simply get less. To tax the paying people more each step only serves to create a system of payers and takers, to which I would ask- which end would you choose? Socialism can be an enticing thing when you’re not the one paying for it. Even communism makes ‘everyone’ pay, or DO something for what they get.

In modern America, however, we seem comfortable taxing and taking from ‘the rich’ all the time to raise the tide of the ‘the poor’.

While that sounds noble, America’s ‘poor’ have Xbox360s, cars, and cell phones and America’s ‘rich’ have $60,000 in credit card debt.

Mr. Kelly is right that it isn’t quite as black and white as the mantra “no new taxes” but rather it could be as simple as “no new spending” — and when Mr. Kelly’s philisophical approaching-socialist fiscal policy spends more, guess who picks up the tab?

Taxpayers do. You and I. And not just the ones who can afford to weather fast-diving property values and simultaneous higher property taxes; but, working families, fixed income retirees, and those who can least afford the regressive property tax levied by a city government that would, in Mr. Kelly’s words, ”provide the level of services that City residents expect.”

Indeed, “LOS” or Levels of Service, is the modern buzzword for ‘keeping up the INCOME stream into the government so we don’t have to look for jobs in the private sector’. “Income” seems like a funny word for a government to use to me. I wonder if we replaced it with “cost” if we as the “customer” would look differently at it?

What are these city services? Let’s go over the short list (commentors please fill in the X’s and add fuel to the accountability fire if you know of more): $X to Kybecca as I’ve recently learned, $X to economic development that yields tattoo parlors and bars, $X to city landscapers (they do an excellent job, but we’re talking spending practices here) rather than to competitive-bid contractors, $X on a BCF tourism marketing firm who triple-dips its fees with minimal accountability and agency charges when we already budget enough staff members to do the job internally, $X into tax rebates to Kalahari, $X cash into river shore restrictions (when we could be charging ramp fees and increase tours on the river, instead we are paying for armed protection to keep people out, $X on a Sophia Street revitalization project best handled by *gasp!* small businesses and a free market approach, and $X into a school system that produces mid-percentile ranked students who average above-average costs to produce them (it’s waaay worse in Spotsylvania at though!)

This is before we begin to explore what Fredericksburg could be doing more efficiently with our money internally. It would be great if government stuck to “Good schools, safe streets, and good services” that Mr. Kelly’s eight year tenure on City Council should have given Fredericksburg’s taxpayers, but they’ve gone way beyond that as a body.

And woe to any taxpayer that questions the handouts and poor fiscal management of the status quo. If the Caroline street busy-bodies don’t get you, the Free Lance-Star will!

Instead, we settle for mediocrity time and time again. Out-of-control spending is the problem, and more taxes are the oxygen that keep that fire raging.

The simple solution? Do what every other working family does across Virginia in tough times: Cut spending, be realistic, and be firm: “No *MORE* Taxes!”

Stafford County Government: A Schoolyard Bully?

From the Free Lance-Star today:

Sally O’Keefe writes:

The story of 81-year-old Charlie Williams having to go before the Board of Zoning Appeals so he can put his own horse on his own property is a perfect illustration of the new face of Stafford County government: overly regulatory, intrusive, and restrictive ["Farmer, friends test Stafford ordinance," Sept. 9].

In nine short months, the new Planning Commission and the new Board of Supervisors have moved at breakneck speed to introduce numerous new regulations, conditions, restrictions, and rules concerning what you can and cannot do with your property.

The result is a transfer of power from you to them. They, not Mr. Williams, will now decide if he can keep his own horse, Penny. And to get that permission, he must go cap in hand, pay a fee, and file lots of stupid paperwork.

Is it just me, or does this seem plain wrong? Has Stafford County become the schoolyard bully?

Spotsylvania, Virginia is McCain Country!

Do you know how I know The Fredericksburg Area is going to go HUGE for McCain? The Spotsylvania Country Republican Committee executive board spent eight hours today installing massive signs all over the county for John McCain for president and Rob Wittman for U.S. congress. We asked and asked the Gilmore camp for signs. They gave none, so we put up none. Sorry Jim- we did our part.

WIth no exceptions, at each location we spent about 30 minutes assembling signs, and the car horns were going crazy! I’ve never seen such an outpouring of public support.

Pictured left, we were along I-95 climbing a 20+ foot tall rickety wooden frame (with permission). The truckers, motorcycles and cars honked about every 10th car! Obviously none of them had any idea that the other vehicles were doing this, so it really shows the support McCain has, and the lack of support for Obama Bin Biden too!

Do the math; we have a LOT of huge signs up now on the major thoroughfares by our efforts today alone. Private property owners have been ringing our phones off the hook for McCain/Palin signs, but the national campaign has been slow to get them delivered to us- until now… you’ll really start to see how RED our region is from here to November. We would have gotten more up, but people kept pulling up to us and interrupting to thank us for our volunteerism and requesting yard signs and bumper stickers to which we proudly responded, “here ya go!”.

You can get all the campaign materials you need at our massive regional Palin-Biden debate event Oct 2 at the EXPO center. See www.FredGOP.com for more info and to register for FREE admittance.

If you need supplies, you need to come to the Fredericksburg Regional GOP HQ at 150 Riverside Parkway in south Stafford, off exit 133b left at first light, left at first turn, along side I-95, just past Riverside Dinner Theatre on the right atop Strayer University in the 3 story building. Contact Kevin McNulty for McCain Headquarters questions: 202-507-0841. Tell him you got his number from Rappahannock Red!

You’ll also notice from here on how the democrats will litter the VDOT right of way wih campaign signs…. call your local VDOT office and ask that they be removed immediately when you see this. They are, of course, allowed on private property unless your homeowners’ association has a rule against signs. Many do.
